Governance

How we are governed

Renew Counselling is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our therapeutic services are accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and we adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions 2018. For further information on how we’re funded, head to the How We’re Funded page. For all other governance documents, please scroll down to the bottom of this page.

our council of trustees

Our Council of Trustees are the guardians of Renew’s purpose and are ultimately accountable for the organisation. Led by the Chair of the Council of Trustees Tim Rose, the council is comprised of 9 volunteers, who bring with them a wealth of expertise and experience gained in a range of industries in both the private and public sectors.  For further information on our trustees, head to our Meet the Team page.

Our Senior Management Team

The Board of Trustees is supported by the Senior Management Team. Led by Chief Executive Nikki Schuster, the Senior Management Team oversee the implementation and day-to-day delivery of Renews organisational strategy.

For further information on our Senior Management Team, head to our Meet the Team page.

Clinical governance

Day-to-day clinical issues are overseen by our experienced counselling managers who report to the Chief Executive.

Overall clinical responsibility rests with the Council of Trustees, who delegate to a Clinical Governance Committee made up of a trustee, the Chief Executive, a clinical lead and counselling managers.

The Clinical Governance Committee ensures that all policies, procedures and practices fulfil the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and current child protection, data protection, equal opportunities and employment legislation.

Our clinical lead audits and evaluates the work and reports directly to the Chief Executive. She is available to staff to give advice on specific client work if necessary. All client-work is evaluated using internationally recognised and research-validated tools (CORES, YPCORE and Core 34).
