Renew Counselling and Training

Is counselling for you? Which of the following statements apply to you…

  • People often tell you “I don’t know why I’m telling you this…”
  • Friends come to you when they need to talk things through
  • You’re curious about counselling as a career
  • You want to feel more confident listening and responding, without needing to “fix” things
  • You’d like to communicate better at work and in everyday life

If one or more of the above statements applied to you, our Level 2 Introduction to Counselling Skills course could be the perfect next step!

Starting November 2026, we’re welcoming a new group of learners to our Sycamore Centre in Chelmsford for a supportive and reflective introduction to counselling skills, and you can join them.

Interested? Make sure to sign up to our FREE online Q&A taking place at 12:30pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

A course that’s about more than just learning skills

This course isn’t about giving advice or having the “right answers.”

Over 12 weeks, you’ll explore:

  • What it really means to listen (without rushing to fix things)
  • How to communicate with empathy and understanding
  • How counselling relationships are built safely and ethically
  • How your own values and experiences shape the way you relate to others

Many students tell us that the impact goes far beyond the classroom, changing how they connect with people in their everyday lives.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal if you:

  • Are thinking about becoming a counsellor but want a supportive introduction
  • Work in a caring, people focused role (such as teaching, healthcare, pastoral work or social care)
  • Are planning to apply for our DipHE Counselling (Children and Young People)
  • Simply want to improve communication and build deeper, more meaningful relationships

No prior counselling experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get involved!

  • What you’ll learn along the way

The course combines discussion, practical skills practice and personal reflection, covering three key areas:

    1. The Professional Context of Counselling
Understand the ethical foundations of counselling and what makes a safe, supportive helping relationship.
    2. Communication Skills in Helping Relationships
Develop active listening and empathic responding skills to improve how you connect with others.
    3. Introduction to Personal Development and Theory
Reflect on your values, beliefs and personal growth as you begin to understand yourself and others in new ways.
